So yesterday I wrote about Twitter pulling me in to eating pies when I’m not even a fancier of pies. Today the subject is drinking — or not. Drinking in the sense of cocktails and other hard alcoholic concoctions — not beer and wine.

Twitter didn’t cause me to stop drinking. In fact I had no plan to quit drinking. I just sort of noticed one day that it had happened, seemingly without intention or attention. I was just going along doing what I do when I noticed I wasn’t really drinking any more. Sure an occasional beer but not even that very often. (more…)

Stumbled upon a vodka tasting yesterday afternoon while on a walk around Portland.  New Deal Distillery makes vodka right here in Portland with Bull Run water and natural ingredients.  You may have seen their vodkas at your favorite bar or in the liquor stores.

They’ve recently created a partnership with a Bay-area company called LOFT which makes organic liqueurs –  those were also on the tasting list yesterday.  The Spicy Ginger couldn’t have tasted more like very fresh ginger root and the tangerine was intensely tangerine.  I’m not that fond of lavender-flavored things but other people were definitely enjoying it.  LOFT liqueurs are the first ones in the U.S. to be certified organic — and they’re just becoming available in the Portland area.   Definitely worth trying.

The vodka is excellent as well — the liqueurs were just a surprise.
